The Things We Say

The words of my mouth are edifying like a fruit. It shapes things around and causes movements.”

“Lord, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.” Psalms‬ ‭141:3‬ ‭

Glad to come your way again. As a matter of fact, this was supposed to be last’s week’s, but it got deleted when I pressed the ‘publish’ button which was strange and annoying at the same time. Let us have a crack at it again. Shall we?

Today, we want to focus on the importance of words that come out of our mouths. My prayer is, after reading, one will take into account how he/she talks. Words are not just words, they are things- it carries substance, there is a weight behind what you say and it also can impact your destiny.

How do I know that? Look at this scripture with me:

“Words can bring death or life! Talk too much, and you will eat everything you say.” ‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‬‬

Anything that is life or death related has something to do with destiny. I think, when it comes to bridling our tongue from speaking carelessly, one has to rely more on the grace of God than on willpower. The first quoted scripture is an excerpt of a prayer made by King David.

How do we keep our mouths from just saying anything? Before, you come to the place of resolutions, steps, and principles. You first have to come to the place of prayer. Believe in the power of prayer by surrendering your vulnerability when it comes to the area of speech and you will leave empowered to practice the steps and principles you have in place.

People who can keep their speech in check are commended to be perfect (mature) because of their ability to control their bodies.

“All of us do many wrong things. But if you can control your tongue, you are mature and able to control your whole body.” ‭‭James‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭

Anybody who struggles with self mastery has to check the ‘health’ of his tongue. I am using health here because how wholesome are your words- are they fruitful, do they build people up? Sometimes, when in the hospital to check on your health, a thermometer is stuck in your mouth to check your body temperature.

You see, it goes beyond physics and science. Our tongues determine our world we live in and the state of our spirits.

Let us stop here and continue on this next week. Hope you were blessed reading? Please let me know through your comments.

Till I come your way again…
